An Online Network Model-Free Wide-Area Voltage Control Method Using PMUs

This paper proposes a novel online measurement-based Wide-Area Voltage Control (WAVC) method using Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data in power systems with Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices. As opposed to previous WAVC methods, the proposed does not require any model knowledge or participation of all buses and considers both active reactive perturbations. Specifically, exploits regression theorem Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process estimate sensitivity matrices through PMU online, which are further used design apply voltage regulation by updating reference points FACTS Numerical results on IEEE 39-Bus 68-Bus demonstrate that model-free can provide effective control various network topologies, different combinations voltage-controlled voltage-uncontrolled buses, under measurement noise, case missing PMUs. Particularly, algorithm may outperform model-based when an undetected topology change happens.
